LEGO Based Therapy

Social Skills Development through Progressive Play

Our mobile LEGO Based Therapy Program service delivers group sessions. Our LEGO Based Therapy facilitators will come to you to offer a child led, gentle and fun way to develop social communication skills through a LEGO Program.

LEGO Based Therapy is a strengths-based program that works by teaching children observation and adaptability skills. Research shows that participants respond more positively to this approach than to any other traditional form of intervention. Participants learn to look to each other for information, support and are able to build relationships in a safe and respectful environment.

Through collaborative play, participants learn to take turns, share resources, negotiate roles, and communicate with their peers, improving their ability to interact and form relationships. Engaging in LEGO-based activities encourages verbal and non-verbal communication among participants, promoting the expression of thoughts, ideas, and feelings.

Building with LEGO requires planning, organisation, sequencing, and problem-solving skills, which are essential components of executive functioning. Participating in LEGO-based therapy helps children with autism develop and strengthen these cognitive abilities, including attention, working memory, flexibility, and self-regulation, which can generalise to other contexts.

LEGO-based therapy promotes peer interaction and collaboration, providing opportunities for children with autism to work together towards a common goal. Working collaboratively on LEGO projects encourages teamwork, cooperation, and mutual support, fostering positive social dynamics and peer relationships.

Overall, LEGO-based therapy offers a fun, engaging, and effective intervention for promoting social, communication, cognitive, and emotional development in children with autism.
